Lowering Cholesterol

Lowering cholesterol is not impossible, but also not easy. It requires will and dedicatged effort. You can lower your cholesterol by using cholesterol lowering foods in your diet.

Cholesterol lowering can be achieved

  • by eating low cholesterol foods and low cholesterol diet / recipes.

  • by eating foods with diatery fibers including oats, oat bran.

  • by eating Psyllium seed husk.

  • cutting the amount of fat you eat, particularly avoiding the saturated fat and trans fat can lower your cholesterol level.

  • Be physically active so that your body uses more kilojouls.

  • Avoid following foods

    • Fatty meats

    • Fatty spreads such as butter and cream

    • High fat dairy products such as regular milk, cheese and cream.

    • Food sources of cholesterol such as egg yolk, liver, kidney, brains, etc.

    • Foods that contain trans-fats i.e. hydrogenated oil or vegetable shortening. Choose a liquid or semisoft variety of margarine. Remember, the softer the spread, the less trans fat it contains.

    • Reduce alcohol intake.

Note that cholesterol hdl ldl ratio is also important than individual levels of HDL cholesterol and LDL cholesterol.
