Dental Floss

Do you know, why dental floss is important? Learn how to floss your teeth correctly. Brushing the teeth alone is not enough for healthy teeth. To prevent any disease, it is vital to remove the food particles and plaque.

Although brushing removes plaque and particles from the teeth, flossing is important to remove plaque from between the teeth. Regular flossing once a day removes the plaque that forms between the teeth and below the gum line. It takes only a couple of minutes.

Method of Flossing teeth

Cut off a piece of floss about 18 inches long (measure finger tip to elbow). Wrap one end around the left hand middle finger and the other end around the right hand middle finger, until your hands are about 2-3 inches apart.

Curve the floss around each tooth and gently slide it to the gum line. Move the floss firmly and gently up and down and zig-zag rubbing motion several times to scrape off the plaque. Move the floss up and down on the side of each tooth.

If you have never flossed before, a small amount of blood may be there on the floss after flossing. This indicates that your gums are slightly inflamed and in need of regular flossing. Any bleeding should subside as gums become healthy.
