Calorie Requirement : Daily Calories Need

Your calorie needeed per day depends on your state of health. If you are thin and underweight, then you need more calories than you expend daily.

The calculations of calorie requirements for men and women are based on the Harris Benedict formula, first published more than 85 years ago.

In gthe following formulae, the kg refers to the weight of the persion in kilogram and cm to the height in centimeters. The Activity level varies from 1.2 to 2.0 depending on the amount of exercise you do.

Calorie Intake Formula For Women

( 655.1 + (9.563 x kg) + (1.850 x cm) - (4.676 x age) ) x Activity level

Calorie Intake Formula For Men

( 66.5 + (13.75 x kg) + (5.003 x cm) - (6.775 x age) ) x Activity level

The above formulae do not take the metabolism of the person into consideration.

Do you want to calculate how much calories do you actually need. You can make a rough estimate by the following calorie need calculator. However, the actual caloriesshould you eat to maintain weight may vary based on muscle mass, activity and a variety of other factors such as illness.

To Convert your weight in kilogram to pound multiply it by 2.2. 1kg = 2.2 lbs

By consuming these calories on an average daily basis, you should maintain your weight.


You can use these formulae to know how much calories do you need to cut back for your target weight. If you want to lose 1 pound (455g) of weight (that is equivalent about 3500 calories) in say 10 days, then you should cut 350 calories per day or you must burn 350 calories daily.
